All of the book sale earnings and membership fees the Friends of the Library collect are invested back into the Oakville Public Library system.

In 2007 the Friends have re-invested nearly $40,000.
Here are some highlights:

Oakville Images
The irreplaceable photos and documents in the local history collection held by Oakville Public Library continue to be digitized and are available online.

Summer Reading
Last year over 4,000 kids read over 27,000 books in this program that offers families free activities, encouraging children to continue developing their literacy skills throughout the summer.

Battle of the Books
Teams of students identify titles and authors of books, based on questions about settings, plots and characters. There were 324 students participating this year.

Every Child Ready to Read
In the last year this program has helped 760 children from birth to age six gain stronger reading skills.

Book Play
This program trains caregivers to provide children in home-run daycares the rich literacy experience that is critical to their development.

Write2Xpress
The annual Write2Xpress teen writing contest has had two successful years with over 50 students each year submitting a 1,500-word short story.

Book Nooks
These are mini-libraries in the community that provide bright welcoming environments for kids and parents to explore children’s literature.
